Arthur was the son of William and Emily Murray. In 1901 the family lived at 36 Simonside Terrace, Heaton. According to the family Headstone William Murray was a Justice of the Peace.
Arthur enrolled at the College of Medicine in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1912 (to study dentistry), but left his studies to serve in the Army.
He served in France with the 2nd/8th Batt. London Regiment and was killed near St Julien on September 5th, 1917.
