Kenneth was the son of George B and Emma Saunders. He had four siblings; George, Ethel, Stanley and Arthur. He was educated at the Royal Grammar School in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, and then Armstrong College.
He obtained a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers, 16th Battalion and was training at Alnwick in 1914. On New Year's Eve 1914, Kenneth went out riding with a fellow officer on a motorcycle. Returning in the early evening from Newton-on-the-Moor, the bike, after skidding several times, overturned. Kenneth was found dead beneath the vehicle by the side of the road.
Kenneth is buried at St. Andrews' Cemetery, Newcastle upon Tyne.
