John trained to be a teacher at Armstrong College between 1907 and 1909. He married Estella Clark, who previously lived at Tel-Pung, Birtley, Durham.
During the war, Clark attained the rank of Private in the Royal Fusiliers, 23rd Battalion.
Pte. Clark was initially reported as missing on 25th March 1918 before it was stated he was a Prisoner of War. He had been wounded and died in a German P.O.W. hospital.
He died on 3rd May 1918 aged 30.
J. G. Clark is buried in the Le Cateau Military Cemetery in France.
