George was born on 19th October 1888 to Reverend George Henry Williams, Headmaster of the Carlisle Grammar School, and Florence May Williams, who had lived at Remenham Rectory, Henley-on-Thames prior to her marriage. He had one brother, Arthur Hugh Kay Williams.
George was educated at Carlisle Grammar School from 1901 to 1906 and won the County Council Major Scholar award. He attended Armstrong College in 1908, where he studied Mathematics, Engineering and Electrical Engineering and lived at 6 Gowan Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle. He became a Pemberton Fellow of the University of Durham, gaining a BSc. in Engineering, and an MSc. in 1909. He went on to study at Trinity College, Cambridge as an Advanced Student from 1909 - 1910.
George later went on to work in Newcastle upon Tyne as an engineering draftsman and glass manufacturer. In 1914 he was Manager of Chance Brothers & Co. Ltd., a glassworks company in the West Midlands.
George enlisted as a Trooper in the Inns of Court University Officers' Training Corps Squadron on 3rd September 1914. He was commissioned as a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery, 9th Brigade on 13th October 1914. He first served in France from 1914 - 1915, then Gallipoli in 1915, Egypt and Mesopotamia in 1916, and India from 1916 - 1918.
George died in India on 19th April 1918 aged 30 from the results of an accident while off duty which left him with a fractured skull. He was treated at Station Hospital, Rawlpindi, India, but died of his injuries.
