Robert was born in Addstocks, Burkshire. He was the son of William Henry and Lucy White. Robert later became a student of the Art School at Armstrong College, Newcastle.
Robert was in Canada when war broke out. He was twice rejected when he offered to enlist, but, returning home, was accepted by the Queen’s Westminsters, and saw fighting on the Somme before gaining his commission to the Northumberland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion. He also served in the South African Campaign.
Robert died of his wounds on 26th May 1915 aged 39.
Robert is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
