Lloyd was born in 1894 to William, a Law Clerk, and Anna Maria Thompson. He had an older sister, Florence. He completed his B.Sc. degree (Armstrong College) aged 21 and at the time of entering the army he had won a scholarship for three years geological study in Switzerland which he intended to take up at the conclusion of the war.
Lloyd was gazetted Second Lieutenant in the North Staffordshire Regiment, 7th Battalion on 14th June 1915. His battalion later joined the 39th Brigade, 13th Division. They served in Gallipoli taking part in the Battle of Sari Bair, The Battle of Russel’s Top and the Battle of Hill 60 in 1915 before being evacuated to Egypt in January 1916 due to heavy casualties from combat and disease. By January 1917 they were part of 3rd Corps which had captured the Khudhaira Bend (Mesopotamia). A few days later they would take part in the fight for the West Bank where they suffered many casualties including Lloyd. Lloyd was killed in action on 25th January 1917 aged 23.
Lloyd is buried in the Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
