Biography

Raymond was born in Killingworth in Northumberland, the son of Robert Pratt and Margaret Pratt. His father was a Schoolmaster in Longbenton (1901 census) and later a Headteacher (1911 census).

He studied at the College of Medicine between 1914 and 1916, leaving his studies to join the war effort.

Raymond joined the Royal Navy Auxillary Sick Berth Reserve in November 1915 and attended barracks in Chatham. Raymond was killed in an explosion in 1917 when the ship he was serving on was mined having ‘only quite recently got his commission because of his efficiency as a sick berth attendant’ (Medical Gazette Volume XVII, p. 75).
