Archibald was the son of Thomas Holme Little and Charlotte Anna Hume Little, who lived at Lynwood, Penrith, Cumberland.
Archibald was educated at Sedbergh School between 1908 and 1912, where he served in the University Officers' Training Corps, and then went on to attend Armstrong College.
Archibald enlisted in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on the 16th December 1914. He attained the rank of Able Seaman in the Hawke Battalion. Archibald was hospitalised on 21st August 1915 for Acute Phthisis. He remained at the 15th Stationary Hospital, Mudros where he was then diagnosed with Phlebotomis Fever on the 16th October. He died from his illness on 29th October 1915, aged 21.
Archibald is buried in the East Mudros Military Cemetery in Gallipoli.
Archibald is also commemorated on a grave in Penrith Cemetery, near his family home.
