Biography

George was born in Wales. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Kirkhouse of West Bank, Consett, County Durham.

He was educated at Durham School from 1906 to 1911, where he boarded. He also studied at Armstrong College and gained a BSc. He went on to become Manager of the Blast Furnace Department of Consett Iron Works.

George served with the Durham Light Infantry, 6th Battalion. He was wounded on 26th April 1915 at St. Julien during the 2nd Battle of Ypres. He then served in France from 1917 to 1918.

George was killed at Estaires on 9th April 1918 aged 23.
