Biography

Arthur was the son of Wylam and Emma Hudspeth. He was born in Heaton and had three younger siblings: Emma, Frank, and Henry.

He was educated at Rutherford College, Newcastle upon Tyne, before attending Armstrong College between 1911 and 1914, where he gained a BSc. in 1914. In the 1911 census he was listed as working as a Student Teacher.

Arthur served in France in 1916 and was attached to the Durham Light Infantry, 13th Battalion, becoming Temporary Second Lieutenant on 20th March 1916. Arthur was reported missing on 16th September 1916 and pronounced dead on 19th September aged 23. According to the National Probate Calendar he died in France or Belgium. Arthur's surname is spelt incorrectly on the memorial as 'Huspith'.
