John was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of Henry and Isabel Vasey. He had one sister called Isabell Vasey.
Before the First World War John was employed as a Laboratory Assistant at Armstrong College.
John died of his wounds on 9th July 1916 aged 28.
