Harold was born in Rotherham. He attended the College of Medicine and graduated in September 1903 (M.B., B.S.). He became an MD in April 1906 and practiced in Sunderland.
Harold married Isabella Sinclair of Selwood House Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, in 1913 and they had one child.
Harold was attached to 7th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. A pre-war Territorial, he went overseas in 1915 but returned to England on sick leave later in the year. In April 1916 he was fit enough to return to France. Harold died of heart failure on 30th October 1917, aged 36 years old.
