Percy was born in 1888 in Haverton Hill, Stockton, Durham, England. He was the only child of George and Alice Clark, who lived in Morton-on-Swale, Ainderby Steeple, Northallerton, Yorkshire. His father George was a schoolmaster.
Percy entered Armstrong College in 1907 and gained a BSc. He married into the Chapman family, and had a son, Clarence Clark, in 1913.
During the War, Percy attained the rank of Lance Corporal in the Durham Light Infantry, "C" Company, 18th Battalion. He was killed in action on 1st October 1916, aged 28.
