Llewelyn was born at Lanercost Priory, Cumberland on the 29th May 1880. He was the third son of Canon Henry John Bulkeley and his wife Lucy Margaret. He was educated at Morpeth Grammar School, before going on to study at Uppingham School in Rutland. Following this, Llewelyn studied Medicine at the College of Medicine (1899/00-1903/04), graduating in October 1904 (M.B. And B.S.).
After qualifying, he held resident appointments the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and at the Darlington Hospital and Dispensary. Prior to joining the Army, Llewelyn was practicing in Gateshead. On the 28th April 1915, he married Mary Elizabeth Moore, with whom he had one son.
Llewelyn was gazetted as a Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps on the 22nd March 1917. Nearly a month later, on 12th April, he arrived in France. He was attached to 15th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. Llewelyn was killed in action on 10th April 1918 aged 38 years old, when a shell hit his aid-post in Bouzincourt, France.
