George was the son of R. S. Barlow who lived at 29 Dundas Street, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. He attended Armstrong College, where he studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering.
George served in the Royal Navy, on board HMS Natal. George was killed on 30th December 1915 aged 28. He died when an internal explosion struck HMS Natal while docked in Cromarty Firth.
